RobotMCP v2.2.0 release update

· 2 min read

RobotMCP v2.2.0 made installation and ROS 2 control workflows easier to use. Published on November 5, 2025, this release formally established pipx or pip as the preferred installation path and expanded the ROS MCP Server with ROS 2 Actions, ROS 2 Parameters, image analysis improvements, and WebSocket stability work.

Easier installation

The biggest user-facing change is installation. v2.2.0 makes pipx or pip the recommended path for most users.

This gives users:

  • Isolated installation
  • Easier upgrades with pipx upgrade ros-mcp
  • Cleaner uninstall behavior
  • Less need to manage a local virtual environment

Source installation remains supported for users who need it.

ROS 2 Actions and Parameters

v2.2.0 adds full ROS 2 Actions support, tested on Jazzy.

The release includes tools to list actions, inspect action types and details, send action goals, check action status, cancel goals, and report action feedback through ctx.report_progress.

The release also adds a complete ROS 2 Parameters API for reading, setting, listing, deleting, and inspecting parameters.

Image and connection improvements

The image analysis system was updated to work with any topic containing image data, with improved support for different message types and formats.

The WebSocket manager also received connection handling, error handling, and recovery improvements.

Fixes and documentation

v2.2.0 includes fixes for missing rosapi services, stdio transport JSON parsing errors, inconsistent tool names, and IP address configuration.

Documentation was updated around pipx, source installation, examples, and image processing demos.

Upgrade notes

This release maintains backward compatibility with v2.1.7.

Existing users can keep their current setup, but the recommended path is:

pipx install ros-mcp

Or, if already installed with pipx:

pipx upgrade ros-mcp
